Wang Zhi (died 200) is a fictional character in Luo Guanzhong's historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. He served as a general under the warlord Cao Cao, and was appointed as Administrator of Xingyang. When Guan Yu left Cao Cao and journeyed north to reunite with Liu Bei, Wang attempted to assassinate Guan but failed when his subordinate Hu Ban betrayed him and helped Guan escape.
In 200, Guan Yu concluded his short service under the warlord Cao Cao and bade farewell to the latter. He journeyed northward to reunite with his sworn brother Liu Bei, bringing along with him Liu's wives, whom he had been protecting all this while. In his hurry, Guan forgot to obtain an official pass from Cao and encountered trouble along the way. He slew four generals and crossed three passes before arriving at Xingyang.
Wang was a relative of Han Fu, the Administrator of Luoyang, who was one of the four generals slain by Guan Yu. Wang wanted to avenge Han so he plotted to assassinate Guan. He pretended to be a hospitable host when Guan stopped at Xingyang, while ordering his subordinate Hu Ban to lead a group of soldiers to burn down the guesthouse that Guan was staying in. However, Hu admired Guan's sense of righteousness and secretly helped Guan escape. When Wang learnt that Guan had fled, he led his men on pursuit and caught up with Guan. He was slain by Guan in the ensuing fight.
